Linh's WVU Updates

It has been 2 months since I last updated this blog. Linh has been very busy adjusting to US food, culture, Day Light Savings time changes, and studying at a US university.
Linh has said that she is very happy being independent and has settled/adjusted well into her new "US life"!
Linh's WVU Intensive English Language Program (IEP) and her US student visa will end soon after May 8th. Because of this, during the last 4+ weeks, she has been concentrating on submitting WVU graduate school applications: getting letters of recommendations from her Vietnam university professors (a real hassle); writing "Personal Statements/Essays, filling out applications, and taking the dreaded GRE tests (March 8th).
She is/has applied to 3 WVU graduate programs: Masters in Public Administration (MPA), Masters in Social Work (MSW), and Masters in World Languages, Literatures & Linguistics (concentration in Linguistics).
Linh has applied to 3 masters programs to enhance her chances of being admitted to at least one. If she does not get admitted to a WVU graduate program, her US visa will expire and she will have to return to Vietnam.
She should receive all of her WVU grad school acceptance/denial notifications no later than April 15th. So - everyone keep your fingers crossed!
Top Pic - Linh completes her 4+ hour GRE tests. Only the MPA program (Linh's preferred program) required a GRE. As expected, it is extremely difficult for any non-native- English speaker to do well on the GRE - Linh's scores ranked her in the lower 10 percentile. Fortunately, the MPA program director explained to Linh that her undergraduate GPA (Linh's = 3.26, MPA requirement = 2.75) and "Personal Statement/Essay" have the greatest impact on their admission decision!
Bottom Pic - Linh's "GRE completion celebration dinner" = seafood fried noodle nest!
