WVU IEP Graduation, Celebration Dinner & Honky Tonk!

Early this evening the WVU Intensive English Program (IEP) had there "graduation ceremony".
Top pic is Linh receiving her IEP Graduation Certificate, Best Creative Writing Portfolio AND Best Reading Awards from Stacy Fint, WVU IEP Director. 2 Awards (honors) AND a 4.0 GPA!
Linh invited 5 of her WVU friends to join us at an IEP graduation celebration dinner - bottom pic - from left Andy, his Vietnamese wife Thu, Linh, Mayara, Yuka, me, Thinh. Andy/Thu/Thinh all have WVU MSW degrees. Everyone enjoyed great food and conversation!
Linh and her friends then wanted to continue the grad celebration at Schmitt's Saloon and Dance Hall.

Grad/Summer School Decisions, IEP Grades, & First Prom

Linh has decided to pursue a Masters in Social Work (MSW) graduate program at West Virginia University (WVU). She has also decided to attend social work related classes throughout the summer (May through August) at WVU - 1 class during each (of 2) 6-week summer session.
Linh also received her IEP grades today for 7 classes (Grammar, Reading, Writing, Communication Skills, Vocabulary, Creative Writing & TOEFL "Gold"). She received an "A" in ALL of her classes! A terrific 4.0 GPA to start her WVU studies!
I will be going to WVU tomorrow primarily to help Linh register for her summer classes, buy books, and pay WVU fees - and - attending Linh's WVU Intensive English Program (IEP) graduation!
Last Friday Linh attended her first "prom" - an IEP graduation class celebration! Her and her IEP colleagues "dressed-up" for the occasion (top pic - note "heels"), danced, and had a great time!

WVU Grad School Admission Updates

Linh has been accepted to 2 WVU grad programs: MA Linguistics and Masters in Social Work (MSW)! Unfortunately, Linh was not accepted in the Masters in Public Administration (MPA) program - the program she was most interested in pursuing (and the only program requiring a GRE).
I am very proud of Linh's great achievements! She is incredibly "relieved" - and extremely happy - that she has been accepted to and will pursue a WVU grad degree program - and will not have to return to VN! Next Step = within the next week, Linh will further research MA Linguistics/MSW grad programs and make a decision which she will pursue. Then, select/enroll in summer classes, update her US visa, and take driving lessons. So - stand-by for updates!

More Firsts

It has been more than a month since my last blog update - and many of you have been asking "what's up".
Yesterday (Sunday), I took Linh and Yuka (Linh's WVU IEP Japanese classmate/friend) to the Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium.
Linh saw many live animals for the 1st time - including snow leopard, penguins, polar bears, black bears, ostrich, and even made friends with a giant grouper (top pic)!
We then ate a great lunch at one of the very few Vietnamese restaurants in Pittsburgh (bottom pic Linh with Yuka).
Remainder of day was horrific having to deal with problems associated with a "mistake" made by a Jeep dealership's mechanic - ugh! But all should be "fixed" by tomorrow morning.
By the end of this week (Friday), Linh should have received all of her grad school (MPA, MSW & MA Linguistic)acceptance/denial letters/emails. I will update blog after she has received all 3 letters.
